Blushing Valentine’s Day Look

Some days are easier than others when it comes to getting ready. Some days it’s out of the question. Since becoming a mom to two boys under 3 I’ve had to adjust my makeup routine. It’s now all about timing and what I can get done in 15 minutes or less, and this is honestly a really great routine I have now that can look really clean and polished or glam like my days back at the MAC counter.

My skin has went through a roller coaster in the last year. Before Remi it was combination with a decent amount of oil in the t-zone, come shortly after finding out I was pregnant it became extremely irritated by everything and dry as a desert. My whole pregnancy my skin was so dry and it seemed like no matter what I used nothing helped long term, it did clear up though on the plus side! Once Remi arrived the clear skin lasted about 3 weeks and then the oil came back with a vengeance. What didn’t disappear though was the dryness, how could my skin be so oily and so dry at the same time!?! Hormones.. simple answer is hormones.

Fast forward to now and my hormones are finally leveling themselves out and I’m able to do a makeup routine I don’t have to adjust so much because of dry or oily skin. I pretty much have my skin figured out at this point.

To achieve this look I started with some Image Skin Care Matte Face Lotion, which has some SPF in it also. Since the matte helps control the oil, to add a little hydration back into my skin I used the Tula Face Filter Blurring & Moisturizing Primer. This is nice because it helps hide pores, blocks oil but adds hydration, and adds a tint of color to the skin. My go to foundation since literally high school has been MAC studio fix fluid, I will sometimes switch between this and Estée Lauder Double Wear but usually only do DW when it’s hot out since it helps fight humidity a little better. In Studio Fix i am NC37 for reference. For Concealer I like an oldie but goodie tried and true MAC Pro Long Wear Concealer (NW20). I use this under my eyes and down the bridge of my nose just to high light a little. To set I like Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder since it’s light weight and a small amount dusted over the face goes a long way. To Bronze I use MAC Harmony and just hit the high points on my face where the sun would normally tan. You can add blush if you like to the apples of your cheeks, today I did but normally I just stick with bronzer to quicken up my routine. Blush used was Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic in First Love. For Eye brows I prefer a pencil, I really like Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in the color Carmel for my blonde hair and olive skin. Her pencils are precise and don’t smudge no matter how hot it gets which is great for the oily girls! Since we seem to see a long wear trend here can you guess what eye liner and mascara I prefer!? MAC again! I LOOVEEEEEEE MAC’s Pro Long Wear Eyeliner in the shade Definedly Black, it is so dark and Smokey and it glides on like perfection. I used to love showing this liner to customers when I worked at MAC because you can draw a line on your hand, let it set for about 30 seconds and then try and smudge it and it won’t budge, It’s amazing! For Mascara I like MAC Extended Play Mascara in Giga Black. To finish off the look I wanted to go against the usual red lip and reach for a Pink. So I chose Candy Yum Yum by you guessed it, MAC! For those who don’t want such a bold pink you could try MAC Angel or Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk. If you want to take this one more step fancy just add you a nice strip of lashes and you are date night ready!

I hope you enjoyed this little “how to” Valentine’s Day look!

How To Make Dirty Hair Look and Feel Refreshed Again, A Step By Step Guide

So I here I am two months after giving birth to our second child, while I manage to be able to sneak in the quick daily body showers it’s not every day that I get to wash my hair. If we’re being brutally honest I probably wash my hair every 3-4 days, sometimes I stretch it to 5. Some of you may think “ew gross” but honestly if you really read into it or ask most hairstylist the less you wash your hair the better. Now I’m not a professional so I will give no advice on this but, I can give you my personal experience with it and how I make it work with the busy schedule of being a mom.

My typical week after washing my hair looks as follows:

Day 1: Hair is so fresh and so clean! No products generally needed this day, maybe hair spray if the style calls for it!

Day 2: Oh girl you’re looking a little deflated! Let me just throw in some dry shampoo at those roots to give you a little life again! *spritz spritz* “ahhhhhh!” Much better! Maybe a little teasing to top off that extra volume!

Day 3: (Looks in mirror) Yikes! Normally this day is the WORST for me. My hair is looking greasy, it’s laying all kinds of funky ways, looks totally dull and flat, and has no volume at all. So first things first I brush my hair and part it the way I want for the day. If it’s not working like I’m wanting it to I’ll take my spray bottle and pump a few bits of water onto it, grab the blow dryer and rough dry for about 30 seconds until it’s no longer damp, and doing what I want. Next I will grab my dry shampoo and section my hair, spray, and massage into my scalp. For me this helps fluff the root and massage the dry shampoo into the extra oil I’m trying to rid. Next I address the volume at the ends and body of my hair I am lacking. I like to use either a texturizing or volumizing spray and position the bottle below my hair facing the nozzle pointing up into the ends and middle of my hair. Do a few spritz of this and then again do a little fluff at my root and *BAM!* she’s a whole new woman!

Day 4: I basically do everything the same as above except by this point I usually almost always have to back comb my hair after I put in my products so that the products don’t make my hair heavy. Normally I will only back comb the very top section of my hair around the part line and that does the trick!

Day 5: If it gets to this point I repeat everything from Day 4!

Let me just tell ya, mommin’ ain’t easy BUT it is the most amazing thing ever! Babies are only babies for a short time so enjoy it. Basque in the oily pits of your hair, love them littles so hard, because before you know it your routine will return to “normal” and you’ll miss the days where they needed you so much you couldn’t even wash you hair.

The perfect EASY Fall makeup Look!

 – You can buy THIS sweater here –

The leaves have started to fall, the air is finally starting to feel brisk, and it’s that time of year you may also notice your skin changing. Maybe not just by losing that gorgeous summer glow from the Sun Gods but also losing some of that glorious (and maybe not glorious for my combo/oily gals) hydration the hot humid air summer lends you. So with changing skin tones comes changing your makeup tones!

Now I personally still like to self tan (I love THIS self tanner and swear it gives the best golden streak free color) to keep year round color but I love to change my makeup routine. I feel like makeup truly can set your mood so what better way to help get in the Fall Spirit than to incorporate those gorgeous brown, tan, and Burgundy tones. Plus they are so complimentary on fairing skin tones! Some of my favorites colors are Kat Von D Bow n Arrow , MAC Kinda Sexy , MAC Sin , and Anastasia Beverly Hills Ashton .

My current go to Fall Look consists of darker brows, bold lashes, and a dark neutral lip. I will list all details below of the products used to accomplish this look.

Now I’m normally a oily skin sufferer but during pregnancy I became really dry around the outer parts of my face and extremely oily in my t-zone. Now most people would be like you’re getting a compromise isn’t that good? Yes, but no. I found myself looking for a new skin care routine that wouldn’t over dry my already dry areas but would also help control my oily areas that were tending to break out more. So with a lot of trial and error I finally came across a cleanser that helped fight off oil without turning my skin into the Sahara Desert. The brand is Image Skin Care and I have turned to them for my entire skin care regimen! I use the Salicylic Acid Acne Facial Cleanser and it is Heaven! After using that three times a week I follow up with their Medicated Acne Masque. Now I don’t suffer from terrible Acne by any means but I do still have those crazy hormonal (especially postpartum) break outs.   I feel like this help keep my skin in check and when I do get some little guys that like to pop up and say hello its quick to rid them! After I wash my face (and on the days I use the masque) I follow up with their Mattifying SPF 50 lotion. Its very thick but not heavy by any means. It is the perfect mixture of hydration that you can feel penetrate into your skin but leaves you with a matte no shine finish. Its so perfect in my honest opinion that I use this as my makeup primer because I feel like it really grabs onto my makeup and keeps it in place all day!

I hope you all enjoyed this little skin care and makeup post! I will try and do an updated makeup routine every month since I like to try new products all the time but if I don’t change anything I will definitely update you on products I’ve found and am loving! Have a wonderful Veteran’s Day.

Roman’s Birth Story

Hey everyone!

Sooooo it’s been a while! While I am sorry I am also not, I have been wrapped up in the beauty of motherhood and have been soaking up and enjoying every second, minute, hour, and day of it! I thought I would jump on here while Rome is taking his short afternoon nap and share with you our wonderful and hectic story of Roman’s big arrival.

3:32 AM- I wake up to contractions that had felt much different than the typical Braxton hicks contractions. Now if you know me, I had TONS of Braxton Hicks! I had ourselves a couple this could be it moments that weren’t actually IT! Haha! I knew these were different because they were super painful (they actually gave me the shakes and sweats). I wake up Kevin and go into the bathroom and call out on call nurse and she advises me to head to Labor and Delivery.

3:57 AM- We arrive to L&D and get checked in. Doctor comes in and checks me, only dilated to a 2, so he has us get comfortable and tells us rest up and that he will be back in an hour to check on my progression.

5:00 AM- No progression.. still at 2 but still having painful contractions. Doctor again tells us he will return in an hour.

6:00 AM- 3cm dilated! But he called it a “possible” 3 so I started losing hope.. and I knew in my gut that this was Labor. He tries to reassure me it was false Labor and still has us stick around for another hour.

7:00 AM- 3cm and he calls it a “sure” 3 this time but I’m still not progressing quick enough and still tries to argue it’s false Labor.. says he will return in an hour AGAIN.

8:00 AM- Doctor decides to send us home. He says I probably won’t be looking to go into labor in the next 24 hours but that I should be meeting our little guy in a day or two for sure. We get our hospital bag rounded up, I change back into my clothes and we leave the hospital. On the way home we grab some breakfast to go since Kevin has to be to work at 9AM. We get home around 8:30 Kevin gives me a kiss goodbye and tells me if I need anything to give him a call and he’s there! (Such a great guy!)

9:15 AM: Ring Ring! “BABE MY WATER JUST BROKE!” Kevin speeds home, our hospital bag is still in the car and we head BACK to L&D. Now they never tell you that your water keeps breaking.. it’s a constant leak.. and walking through a hospital looking like you’re peeing yourself is not a pretty look! Ha! We check in AGAIN and get into a room very quickly! Now I’m not gonna lie it felt good to see the doctor again and give him a little “I told you so” look hahaha! It’s funny how well you really know your body!

Now from here on out all the time started to blur together my contractions got pretty strong really quick. I was ready for my epidural around 11:15am because my contractions had become so strong I couldn’t stop shaking uncontrollably.

We get the anisthesiologist in the room to do the epidural but things just aren’t working. He tries the first time and hits a vein so he has to take it out and re-do it. Goes in for a second attempt and what do you ya know.. misses again.. so third times the charm right? He gets the epidural in and runs a little test dose of fentanyl, instantly i feel higher than a fucking kite! So he had missed again.. as I’m looser than a damn goose they call for another anesthesiologist to come in and attempt a 4th try. They have me lay on my side with my knees To my chest and tu-duhhhhhh! It’s finally in correctly and I’m feeling numb and high! Win win right!?

Now the problem we started encountering was I wasn’t progressing at all as far as dilating goes so they went ahead and called in for some petossin. But before they can give it to me Roman’s heart rate starts dropping. They turn me on my other side and again his heart rate drops. Other side, same thing. While the nurses kept their shit together calmly (which I greatly appreciate) they tell me they can’t give me the petossin because it could cause more harm then good at this point and bring my OB in. He gives me the option to wait it out a little longer or to go ahead with an emergency c-section. While I wanted to choose the c-section he tells me Kevin can’t be in there with me and I instantly rule that out as long as possible!

Hour goes by and still nothing but Rome’s heart beat dropping anytime I lay on my side. So they decide to put me on my hands and knees rocking from front to front and side to side… keep in mind I am NUMB and can’t feel a thing.

A couple hours go by and I’m finally making progression!! AND Roman’s heart rate hadnt dropped since I had been on my hands and knees so the doctors knew there was a cord around his neck. I got to a 6 and they kept me rocking for another hour. My nurse was about to be off her shift and came in to check one last time and I had progressed to an 8. She introduced Kevin and I to the new nurse that would be on with us and proceeded to put me back on hands and knees. (After all that I was thinking I better have some damn abs and killer thighs after this baby from all the rocking)!

It hadn’t even been 10 minutes and the new nurse comes back and checks me again and quickly asks “you ready to have a baby!?” Of course Kevin and I were so excited and we are like YES YES!!!!! Now the best part!? My nurse who had been off the clock stayed to help me deliver. She was absolutely amazing and seriously the best ever!!!

We spent 40 minutes pushing and around 8:37pm after 17 hours of labor our beautiful little boy arrived into the word! I can’t tell you how happy I am that we decided to wait it out and avoid the c-section! The rest I have chosen to keep to us as our special moments with him afterwards. We love you so much Roman Alexander Lyda!

You are the best thing to ever happen to us!
